Borno Governor Pardoned 22 prisoners for Independence


Borno State Government said on Wednesday that it had pardoned 22 prison inmates in Maiduguri as
part of the Nations 54th Independence celebration.

Governor Shettima made this known during an unscheduled visit to the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison as parts of his Independent celebration plans.

The Governor presented clothing and 50,000 naira to each of the newly freed prisoners to enable them travel home to their families.

As part of his effort to make live in the prison more healthy for the prisoners he donated a 27 KVA power generator to the prison to help them pump clean water from a new borehole.

The Governor also gave the remaining inmates assorted food items,10 rams and 2 bulls, this is to enable them celebrate the forth coming sallah and give them a taste of good food while they serve their time out.

He also spoke to the inmates telling them that their current situation is not the end of the road for them and that some holy prophets in the one time or the other imprisoned, he urges them to pray for the country and peace over the current security challenges faced by the country.

The prison warden thanked the Governor for his magnanimity and also asked for some rehabilitation tools for the prison so as for the inmates to use their time there to learn some skills and hand work.

The 1,600 capacity prison now only has 411 inmates and 20 are insane and adnormal making life tough at night for others.
